Established in 2022, Taiteilijatalo Taideniitty (Artist House Taideniitty) is located in an idyllic wooden house district in Old Varkaus and serves as an experiential meeting place for artists and visitors. The former workers’ house, which is over 100 years old, has been transformed into a small artist house and cultural center. We organize art exhibitions, courses, and cultural events.

The bright and cozy one-, two-, or three-room residences and the inspiring and natural environment of Old Varkaus provide space for creativity.

Aurinko, Maa, and Niitty are approximately 52 m2 in size and each has a combined living room/bedroom, a large fully equipped kitchen, a private toilet and shower, and free Wi-Fi.

The Taika family residence is approximately 75 m2. It has two living rooms/bedrooms, a large kitchen, toilet and shower, TV + Chromecast, a play corner for children, toys, games, books and videos, a fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, musical instruments – harmonica, guitar, drums, four beds, free WiFi + other benefits of our residences, laundry and sauna facilities

Our focus is on graphic art + other visual arts, but artists from all fields are welcome with their families and/or pets.

The cozy and bright spaces of the Kollektiivi shared studio enable a wide range of artistic activities. The charming surroundings of Old Varkaus provide an inspiring environment for artists. The approximately 50 m2 studio is equipped with a printing press and basic supplies:

The press is a manually operated gravure press (Halepress M80) 80X140, acid bath for iron chloride, only non-toxic methods are used

The residence includes:

Accommodation + free WiFi
Basic kitchen supplies at the start of the period (coffee, tea, salt, sugar, oil, basic spices)
Parking space (charging for electric cars and heating plugs to be agreed separately)
City bike for the entire period (spring, autumn)
Use of the “Kollektiivi” shared studio, which includes a graphic press and basic supplies
One hour of private sauna time per week in our courtyard sauna
The opportunity to wash, dry, and iron clothes on your own
The opportunity to change bed linen and towels once a week / as needed on your own.

We help you network with local artists and offer visibility on our own social media channels.

In the family residence, we help with childcare / school matters.

You can apply for a self-funded residency using the application form. We will notify you separately about subsidized residencies.

Our residency periods are January 1–April 30 and August 1–December 31.
